See All黃金博物館 Gold Museum The Gold Museum is located in the mountainous town of Jinguashi, in Ruifang, New Taipei City. With plenty of historical, humanities and natural heritage, the park is the first ecology museum in Taiwan. It lays special emphasis on heritage preservation, sustainable development; old buildings reuse as well as localized operations aimed at promoting regional development.In addition to enjoying the unique geological and natural sights here, visitors of the park will have better understanding of the mining history and community culture of Jinguashi.黃金瀑布 Golden Waterfall The substantial Jinguashi rainfall seeps into the mine shafts through cracks in the surface rock, becoming acidulous water after interacting with the pyrite and energite underground and undergoing oxidation reduction.A natural wonder “Gold Waterfall” has formed where the terrain drops sharply. This is one of the sources of the Yin-yang Sea.九份老街 Jiufen Old Street Jiufen is an old mountain village in Ruifang District of New Taipei City, and has perhaps the best old street in all of Taiwan, with authentic Taiwanese food, sloping steps, traditional Chinese architecture, and great views of Su Ao and Keelung Harbors. There are also multiple historical sights within the town. The entire village is built on a mountain slope, so that you can enjoy views of Taiwan's north coast from basically anywhere in the city. Must visit: A-Mei Tea HouseA-Mei Tea House is a popular teahouse located in the heart of Jiufen Old Street market. The teahouse gets its name from it’s original owner and operator, A Mei. Contrary to Jiufen old street, Qitang old street is much quieter, and gives you a sense of authentic mountain village living.Here you can enjoy similar atmosphere to Jiufen Old Street but without the hustle and bustle of commercial tourist activities. This is Yinyang Sea. It was initially believed that the sea color was the result of pollution from Taiwan Metal Mining Corp’s smelting activities but, over 10 years after the company stopped its activities, Yinyang Sea still exists.Scholars say that the Jinguashi geology has a large amount of pyrite that, after millions of years has formed Fe3+ which does no dissolve easily in water. This forms iron ion floating particles when it flows into the sea, resulting in the strange sight of the Yinyang Sea.金瓜石神社遺址 Jinguashi Shrine The Jinguashi Shinto Shrine, also called the “Mountain God Shrine,” is dedicated to the three deities of “ôkuninushinomikoto, kaneyamahikonomikoto and sarutahikonomikoto.In 1933, after the Japan Mining Company took over the management of Jinguashi mine, it commemorated the event by building a Shinto shrine half way up the mountain below Siping lane. The original shrine included a main hall, prayer hall and pavilion for worshipers to wash their hands. There were also two walkways along the stairs, at either side of which were 3 torii (gate), 5 flag platforms and 1 bronze bull.During the Japanese era large-scale religious ceremonies and rituals were held here every year. Unfortunately, the buildings were damaged in the post-war period and today all that is left are 2 torii (gate), a few stone lanterns and the shrine’s original foundation, beams and pillars.無耳茶壺山 Teapot mountain Trail Teapot mountain hike is one of the most famous hiking trail in Taiwan due to its beautiful panoramic scenery. This hike often end up being tourist's favorite in Taiwan as it has all the elements that contribute a good hiking experience- stunning scenery, rock scrambles, steep ascents that required some or basic rock-climbing skills.The real hiking starts at Teapot Mountain. If you would like to continue your climb to the higher mountains, you will have to climb through the highest section of Teapot Mountain via robes provided, and the challenge here is that, you will need to climb through a small cave to continue on the hike. And there is no other way around this.Once you are up there, you will find the views of Taiwan are even better from there and the view will continue to get better the higher you climb.十三層遺址(水湳洞選煉廠遺址) Jinguashi 13 Ruins 13 Ruins was built in 1933, used as ore sorting and smelting plant for the Taiwan Metals Mining Corp. It is also refer to “13 stories.” by locals as it has total of 13 levels. The process of smelting ore at Jinguashi was split into mining, sorting, smelting and refining.At night, with lighting the 13 ruins looks majestic. Nearby are the famous golden waterfalls with roads leading up to the Old Street shopping alleys of Jiufen. Not to be missed during your trip to this northeastern part of Taiwan.金瓜石地質公園 Jinguashi Geopark Jinguashi Geological Park is located at the original Benshan Tunnel. Benshan is what was once called the Great Pumpkin (DaJingua) Mountain. Legend has it that during the era of Liu Mingchuan, a Chinese worker discovered gold at the Great Pumpkin, bringing forth the start of the gold rush and prosperity to its surrounding villages.山尖古道水圳橋 | 黃金水圳橋 | 三層橋 Aqueduct Bridge "Aqueduct Bridge of the Waijiufen Creek" in Jinguashi, is also known as "Golden Shuizun Bridge", build in 1933. It is a very special relic in the Jinguashi area. The name Shuizun Bridge refers to the water bridge that allows water to flow through. The original intention was that during the gold mine development period, the factory needed a large amount of stable water supply in order to transport the chain-washed ore water from the water source to the water storage tower of the refinery.Built during the Japanese Occupation Period, this is an important scenic spot on the Shanjian Road Sightseeing Trail. Travelers should not miss this simple but extraordinary surprise.The three-tiered high and low bridge, the tallest is the Shuizhen Bridge,which transports water to the Japanese mining and refinery plant below. Now it has been destroyed and abandoned with the passage of time, the water flow no longer appears, and the foundation of the bridge is mottled and carved.With the traces of the years, the beautiful stone-grey bridge pier arc can be seen from a distance, and the white waves under the bridge can be compared, and the visual effect is wonderful. The middle bridge is a pedestrian bridge on the tourist trail of Shanjian Road.報時山觀景臺 Baoshi Mountain Lookout "Baoshi" which means "Timekeeping" in mandarin, has an altitude of 260 meters. It is said that during the Japanese Occupation era, there was a siren that sounded regularly, hence the name.This trail is easy to walk, but you also get the panoramic first-class view, among them, the "Zhaori Pavilion" is a good place to enjoy the sunrise. The viewing platform allow you to see the 360-degree invincible landscape, including Keelung Mountain, Teapot Mountain, Yinyang Sea, 13-story ruins, Jinshui Highway.金瓜石勸濟堂 Cyuanji Temple Built in 1896 and consecrated to what was the only golden-faced Guan Gong in Taiwan prior to Retrocession. The gold and bronze Guan Gong statue on the roof of the temple is the largest idol of that deity in the world, weighing more than 25 tons.Going up from the stairs next to Cyuanji Temple, (next to the parking lot), You will be able to see "Baoshi mountain". Walking along the plank road next to the pavilion, you can climb up to enjoy view of the teapot mountain, the Yinyang Sea, and the 13th-story ruins. The scenery is beautiful and magnificent. It is a wonderful place to photograph the entire Jinguashi area.金瓜石戰俘營 Taiwan POW Memorial and Peace Park The International Armistice Peace Memorial Park used to be the site of a Japanese POW camp from 1942 to 1945. Up to 1,000 WWII prisoners of war were imprisoned there at one time; they came from various Allied nations, such as Great Britain, Canada, Netherlands, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and the United States. Most of the prisoners were subjected to various mining work; many of them died during their time here due the poor condition of the mines, lack of medicine and the general harsh treatment by the Japanese Army.After the Taiwan P.O.W. Memorial Society showcased the documentary A War Story in 1997, many interested individuals were led by former POW Jack Edwards to visit the camp in Jinguashi. Soon the Memorial Society actively pushed for the development of a memorial monument at Tongshanli Community Park, the current site of the old Jinguashi camp so many Allied troops were imprisoned in. On November 23rd, 1997, a memorial ceremony was held at the site in honor of the lives lost during the war.November 14th marks the date when the first group of POWs from Great Britain entered the POW Camp at Jinguashi, and the Taiwan P.O.W. Memorial Society decided to honor these soldiers by holding memorial ceremonies in Jinguashi every November. All that remains at the memorial site now are the gate columns of the original camp and a tiny piece of what used to be its outer wall.基隆山(大肚美人山) Keelung Mountain Keelung Mountain is located in the northeastern part of Taiwan. It has an altitude of 588 meters, with third order triangulation station No. 1109 at its summit. As the mountain resembles a chicken coop from the direction of the ocean and Ruifang, it was once referred to as Chicken Coop Mountain (Keelung Mountain). Keelung Mountain towers alone, close to the Eastern Sea and overlooking Keelung Islet. It has always served as an important landmark for navigators.There is a scenic hiking trail on Keelung Mountain, which leads right to the summit. The scenery is dazzling along the way, with constantly changing views along the various altitudes. Those who are traveling by bus can disembark one station after Jiufen's Jiudaokou, at Geding to see the start of the Keelung Mountain Hiking Trail.
